Self-Starter: Sherilyn Kaye Edwards

If you ask Sherilyn Kaye Edwards how she got to where she is today, she would tell you that it all came down to hard work and a willingness to self-motivate. In order to graduate with a nursing degree, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards was required to put in long hours and late nights memorizing anatomy and physiology among other subjects. Sherilyn Kaye Edwards was motivated by a desire to reach her chosen career, and knew that there were great rewards associated with doing well in school. At this point, there was not a great need to self-motivate, as the academic system provided plenty of motivation in the form of grades.

There was a transition, however, when Sherilyn Kaye Edwards entered actual work in a hospital. Rather than getting graded and having numerical values assigned to the quality of her work, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards was periodically evaluated and expected to teach herself what she needed to know the rest of the time. Throughout this process, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards became what is called a self-starter.

In Sherilyn Kaye Edwards’s mind, a self-starter is someone who willingly seeks out new challenges and assignments. As a foster parent, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards believes it is very important to teach the children she fosters to motivate themselves, as their self-motivation is the quickest way to improve their lives. Sherilyn Kaye Edwards believes that if the next generations can be taught to motivate themselves, then the world will truly be a better and more successful place to live.

Throughout her long, fascinating, and widely diverse career, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards has displayed an unusually strong desire to continue her education, and is always on the look out for new opportunities, which she pursues at every turn. Initially, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards was required to focus her studies specifically on the information required to get her Nursing degree – she had to complete many required courses, pass specific tests, and gain very specific knowledge. As an RN, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards was happy to continue to build up her medical knowledge. Sherilyn Kaye Edwards has an incredible capacity to learn new information, and always impressed her professors and supervisors with her tenacity and intelligence. During her tenure as a nurse, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards engaged in medical practices ranging from burn recovery to neurology to telemetry – there was nothing she did not want to learn. This variety of interests shows how versatile Sherilyn Kaye Edwards. As anyone who has ever met her can attest, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards is constantly interested in learning new things.

Outside of her medical career, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards continues to place a similarly high value on learning, and endeavors to pass on her love of knowledge to children whenever possible. To this end, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards also works as a substitute teacher and as a pre-kindergarten teacher at local schools. Sherilyn Kaye Edwards believes that every community member is valuable – even the very youngest ones. Sherilyn Kaye Edwards also believes that you are never too young to learn. As a teacher, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards tries to not only teach children new things, but to teach them to love learning.

Sherilyn Kaye Edwards Involved with Schools

For as long as she can remember, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards has known that complete education and thriving school systems were vital to the success of the community. As she came to understand this need more deeply, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards reached out. She was eager to find ways in which she could help alleviate the issues found inside so many modern schools.

First, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards began to work as a substitute nurse in schools around her local area. Her work in the schools as a volunteer nurse allowed Sherilyn Kaye Edwards to get a better understanding of the difficulties facing many of the schools, and also allowed Sherilyn Kaye Edwards to begin to meet the needs of students on a daily basis.

Sherilyn Kaye Edwards’s determination to help the schools continued to grow. As her next step, she began to work as a substitute teacher as well as a substitute nurse. Sherilyn Kaye Edwards Enjoys Bringing Relief

Nothing is more distressing to a person than seeing a good friend or loved one in pain, and knowing that you can do nothing to help. Fortunately for patients under Sherilyn Kaye Edwards’s care, she prides herself on bringing relief however she can. During her time working in the burn ward at the local hospital, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards developed into a patient care specialist, helping patients take steps to avoid pain and distress while undergoing burn recovery treatments. Sherilyn Kaye Edwards prided herself on being able to relieve discomfort in many of the most painful cases that she saw, and the families of the injured parties were thankful for her knowledge.

Because of this belief, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards works as a pre-kindergarten teacher at a local, federally funded, school for at risk children. As a teacher at this school, Sherilyn Kaye Edwards faces the difficult task of reaching children from low income families, many of whom are not overly excited about being in the classroom. Sherilyn Kaye Edwards faces the additional challenge of teaching in classrooms where the students primarily speak English as a second language. These barriers and hurdles are all in a day’s work for Sherilyn Kaye Edwards, who believes that the possibility of reaching the kids is more than enough reason to persevere.

In Sherilyn Kaye Edwards’s mind, reaching the children early and instilling a love of learning in them while they are still in pre-kindergarten will provide them with solid footing for future academic endeavors.
